Welcome back to The Last Invention.

In this episode, we finally turn our attention to the AI skeptics and dive into the views of those who think the AGI race is being oversold, misunderstood, or misframed.

And we think you’re going to be surprised by what you hear.

Just as we did with the AGI believers, we break the different groups of skeptics into three distinct camps: “AI Is Grift” (a tech-industry con), “We Are on the Wrong Path” (LLMs can’t reach AGI without new ideas), and “AI as Normal Technology” (powerful, but adoption will be slow and institution-bound). To represent each camp we spoke to the big tech critic and podcaster Ed Zitron, NYU cognitive-scientist Gary Marcus, and Princeton computer scientist Arvind Narayanan.
