Last week in Part 1, we told the story of a forgotten chapter in American history – when far-left anarchists and the federal government were locked in a violent back-and-forth that reshaped politics in the US.
In today’s episode, we bring that story into the present. We examine the rise in political violence in the United States over the past few years and ask: How similar is this moment to the anarchist era more than a century ago? And where does the comparison break down?
We hear from a leader of a left-wing militant organization, from professors who studied the online response to United Healthcare CEO Bryan Thompson’s killing, and from supporters of his accused assassin Luigi Mangione.
Many of the people we spoke with believe we are living in an unprecedented moment where traditional protest no longer works. Some argue that if more direct action isn’t taken, the situation will only deteriorate.
As always, thank you to everyone who shares the show with friends and family. And a special thanks to our subscribers: you’re the reason we get to keep doing this.
